Meet Jericho! Jericho is our 5 year old special needs boy…Jericho says all that means is that he is SPECIAL and he NEEDS lots of treats! Jericho doesn’t let being blind get him down and neither should you. Jericho has learned to rely on his other senses and gets around just fine. And what a looker! Jericho is a lab/pit mix who is just so handsome – he actually thinks he is a heart throb to all the ladies.
Jericho and his sister, SEPR Alumni Jubilee, found themselves in a busy shelter, which is a stressful situation for any dog—much less one who can’t see what’s going on. Luckily SEPR found a spot for this gentle soul. Jericho is already settling into his foster home and showing his foster family the amazing ways he’s adapted to his lack of sight. His foster mom says he uses the top of his head to find the boundaries of a wall or fence—clever boy! He also follows verbal cues/commands and his sense of smell to get around. He is able to do everything independently—including getting on and off furniture (when invited, of course!).
Jericho loves life and attention! He loves people, especially kids, and is not shy about asking for pets and cuddles. Due to his blindness a home without small quick moving children will be best He is crate and house trained and has “sit” almost completely down—it’s just hard to contain that wiggly butt sometimes! He also knows come, step (for going down stairs), wait, no, and watch out. Jericho walks nicely on his gentle leader—sometimes a good scent will make him forget to heel, but with a quick correction he’s back on track. Jericho is not a big barker, unless he hears a loud noise that surprises him, like a truck. Jericho loves his toys—he thinks anything he can chew on or toss around is pretty fun! Jericho is also a pro at car rides and doesn’t mind bath times at all. Really, not much seems to faze this boy!
Jericho would do best in a calm home that has a consistent schedule and routine for him to settle into. A family that would give him plenty of cuddles and treats would be right up his alley! Jericho would also enjoy a nice, submissive lower energy female canine friend to keep him company. Jericho will inspire you with his zest for life. Apply to adopt Jericho today!
